So steht's ums neue Album
Die halbe Arbeitsstrecke zur Fertigstellung ihrer neuen und mittlerweile dritten Platte haben die Jungs von Franz Ferdinand nun schon zurückgelegt. Produzent Brian Higgins, seines Zeichens auch Mischexperte bei der englischen Mädchenkapelle Girls Aloud, wird allerdings nicht mehr an dem für Oktober geplanten Zieleinlauf beteiligt sein. Andere Genres, andere Sitten, das mussten die jungen Herren früher als geplant für sich akzeptieren, wie Drummer Paul Thomson gegenüber der BBC nun erklärt:
"We learned a little bit from his methods. We wrote with him for a while and initially we thought we'd work more with him on the album but it didn’t really work out. We just realised that we're not really a pop group. We're just a band that happens to cross over into the whole pop sphere."
Der Sound der neuen Platte soll nun auch nicht samtig weich und Milchschaum-cremig zart durch die Lautsprecherboxen siechen. “Drier and heavier” wird es auf dem bislang noch namenlosen Studiowerk der Schotten zur Sache gehen. Alles in allem hat man sich bei den Arrangements nun aber deutlich mehr Zeit und Muße gegönnt, als es noch bei „You Could Have It So Much Better“ der Fall gewesen war.
"The thing with the last album, we'd just come straight off a tour and into a studio and it felt like we hadn't even stopped to take a breather. That's reflected in the tempo of those songs, we just sort of battered though them. This one, we took some time off and then got back together again and started playing. It was like we started learning how to play our instruments again. I think it's comes naturally to play a bit softer now."
